The first Avatar film was released in 2009 and astonished fans with its groundbreaking 3D visuals, CGI, and motion capture, especially in IMAX theatres. Avatar would go on to become the most successful picture of all time, grossing $2,787,965,087 at the global box office.

We’ll watch the first of four sequels, all of which are being developed at the same time to save money, ten years later, with legendary director James Cameron producing Avatar 2 Movie, and this tremendous blockbuster is expected on December 2020.

When you compare the success of the original Avatar to the best-selling Marvel films, it’s easy to see the franchise’s power. It’s the most successful film of all time, with a box office total of $700 million plus. To duplicate it, you’d have to aggregate the box office totals of two Marvel films. With a budget of over $2.78 billion, Avatar is more expensive than both Avengers: Infinity War and Guardians of the Galaxy combined!!

The sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar, Avatar 2 Movie is an epic science fiction film directed, produced, and co-written by him. Cameron is producing Avatar 2 alongside Jon Landau, with Josh Friedman initially announced as a co-writer; however, it was later revealed that Cameron, Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno all participated in the writing process of all sequels before being credited with separate scripts, leaving the final writing credits unclear.

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald reprise their roles from the first film in the Avatar sequel.

James Cameron postponed the long-awaited Avatar 2 sequel in order to incorporate new cutting-edge filming technology.

This new technique was required to produce underwater performance capture scenarios, which had never been done before in motion capture history. It will be eleven years since the first Avatar film was released. Between 2021 and 2025, the third and fourth Avatar films will be released.

The Avatar 2 Movie franchise, created by James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and distributed by 20th Century Studios, is a planned series of science fiction films, as well as computer games and theme park rides.

Avatar, the first instalment, was released on December 18, 2009, and remained the highest-grossing picture of all time for nearly 10 years. 20th Century Fox announced the proposed series on December 11, 2009, one week before the debut of Avatar in theatres. On January 15, 2010, 20th Century Fox confirmed the series.

The four planned sequels, like the original film, have “completely contained” autonomous stories that “come to their own endings.” The four films are linked by an overarching meta-narrative, forming a huge interlinked tale. The sequels, according to James Cameron, are “a natural extension of all the themes, characters, and spiritual undercurrents” of the original film.

With a cumulative budget of $1 billion for the original film and its four sequels, the Avatar franchise is one of the most expensive franchises ever attempted.

History & Future

Avatar 2009

The plot revolves around an epic struggle on Pandora, Polyphemus’s populated Earth-sized moon and one of the three gas giants orbiting Alpha Centauri A. Human colonists and Pandora’s indigenous intelligent humanoid inhabitants, the Na’vi, are at odds over the planet’s resources and the latter’s survival. The title of the film refers to the human-Na’vi hybrid bodies that the film’s human characters utilise to connect with the indigenous.

Avatar 2 Movie 2022

The plot of the second film is unknown, however it is known that it will take place some years after the first and will explore Pandora’s waters. The film was supposed to be released in December 2014, but it has been postponed multiple times and is now set to be released on December 16, 2022. August 2017 marked the start of production. It will be completed in September 2020.

Avatar 3 (2024)

The second film will be followed by a third feature, which will be released on December 20, 2024.

According to interviews conducted in mid-2010, the third film would focus on the Alpha Centauri system, however the script was not finalised until late 2015, thus this could have changed. Two more sequels are in the works, but their release is contingent on the success of the second and third films.

Avatar 4 (2026)

Shane Salerno will co-write the fourth film, which will be released on December 18, 2026. According to Jon Landau, a third of Avatar 4 has already been shot.

Avatar 5 (2028)

A fifth film has been announced and is scheduled for December 22, 2028

About Avatar

Avatar is a 2009 American epic science fiction film directed, written, produced, and co-edited by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver. In the mid-twentieth century, mankind colonise Pandora, a lush livable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system, to extract the valuable mineral unobtanium. The mining colony’s expansion puts a local tribe of Na’vi – a humanoid race native to Pandora – in jeopardy of extinction. The title of the film refers to a genetically altered Na’vi body that is used to engage with the people of Pandora and is controlled by the brain of a distant human.

Cameron began working on Avatar in 1994, when he wrote an 80-page treatment for the film. Filming was meant to begin after Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster Titanic was completed, with a planned release date of 1999; however, Cameron said that the requisite technology was not yet ready to realise his vision of the film. In 2005, work on the Na’vi language began, and in early 2006, Cameron began writing the screenplay and fictional universe. Due to a breakthrough variety of new visual effects Cameron achieved in collaboration with Weta Digital in Wellington, Avatar was officially budgeted at $237 million. Other estimates put the production cost between $280 million and $310 million, including a $150 million promotion budget. The movie made a lot of use of

Avatar premiered on December 10, 2009, in London, and was released on December 18, 2009, in the United States, to good reviews, with critics applauding the film’s groundbreaking visual effects. The picture shattered multiple box office records during its theatrical run, becoming the highest-grossing film in the world at the time, as well as in the United States and Canada, surpassing James Cameron’s Titanic, which had held both marks for twelve years. For over a decade, Avatar was the highest-grossing film in the world until it was surpassed by Avengers: Endgame in 2019, before a Chinese re-release saw Avatar reclaim the top spot in March 2021.

With a total of more than $3 billion, Avatar is the second highest-grossing film of all time, after only Gone with the Wind. It was also the first picture to generate more than $2 billion in the United States, as well as the best-selling video title of 2010. Avatar received nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, and three wins for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects. The film’s success prompted the release of 3D televisions by electronics manufacturers, as well as an increase in the popularity of 3D films.

Plot

Humans have drained Earth’s natural resources in 2154, resulting in a serious energy shortage. On Pandora, a heavily wooded inhabited moon orbiting Polyphemus, a hypothetical gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system, the Resources Development Administration (RDA) harvests unobtanium, a precious mineral. [10] The Na’vi, a species of blue-skinned, sapient humanoids[37] who live in harmony with nature and worship a mother goddess named Eywa, live on Pandora, which has a deadly atmosphere for humans.

Scientists utilise Na’vi-human hybrids known as “avatars,” which are controlled by genetically matched humans, to investigate Pandora’s environment. Jake Sully, a paraplegic former Marine, takes over as an operator of one for his slain identical twin brother. Sully is an insufficient replacement for Dr. Grace Augustine, the head of the Avatar Program, but she accepts his assignment as a bodyguard. Jake’s avatar is assaulted by a thanator while guiding Grace and fellow scientist Dr. Norm Spellman’s avatars through the forest, where he is rescued by Neytiri, a female Na’vi. She brings him to her clan after seeing an auspicious sign. The clan’s spiritual head, Mo’at, instructs Neytiri’s mother to initiate Jake into their culture.

Director James Cameron developed an 80-page screenplay for Avatar in 1994, drawing inspiration from “every single science fiction book” he had read as a kid, as well as Edgar Rice Burroughs and H. Rider Haggard adventure tales. Cameron declared in August 1996 that after completing Titanic, he would direct Avatar, which would use synthetic (or computer-generated) actors. The movie would cost $100 million and feature at least six star actors in roles “that appear real but do not exist in the physical world.” Cameron’s visual effects company, Digital Domain, joined the project, which was set to begin production in mid-1997 and be released in 1999. Cameron, on the other hand, believed that technology had not caught up.

For the next few years, he intends to focus on filming films and improving the technology. Cameron received $10 million from 20th Century Fox to create a proof-of-concept footage for Avatar, which he showed to Fox executives in October 2005, according to a Bloomberg BusinessWeek cover article.

Cameron said in February 2006 that his film Project 880 was “a retooled version of Avatar,” a picture he had attempted to produce years before, citing technology advancements in the development of computer-generated characters Gollum, King Kong, and Davy Jones. After completing a five-day camera test the previous year, Cameron chose Avatar over his project Battle Angel.
