Walmart Super Bowl Spot Debuts Old Man Bill, Teams Star Wars with Star Trek

Super Bowl 54 arrives this Sunday, and as expected, many companies have spared no expense for their commercials set to air during the premier sporting event, Walmart among them.

Ahead of the big game, the retailer superstore has unveiled its Super Bowl spot online, packed with all kinds of popular references, as beloved, fan-favorite characters pick up groceries and other purchases from the retail location, some descending from the cosmos for their shopping trip.

While characters like Flash Gordon and Buzz Lightyear swoop down for curbside pick-up, the familiar time-traveling telephone booth from the Bill & Ted film series appears, along with our first look at from this summer’s Bill & Ted Face the Music‘s now middle aged Bill S. Preston, Esq. in action. The older Bill quickly joins with his younger self to jam out in the Walmart parking lot.

Interestingly, the commercial features the appearance of different sci-franchises Star Trek and Star Wars, with the U.S.S. Enterprise seen soaring above Earth’s orbit while the iconic duo of C-3PO and R2-D2 search for their nearest Walmart, with the Millennium Falcon seen behind the pair as they investigate a desert planet. At the end of the day, the greatest sci-fi crossover ever has come together for a quick Walmart run.
