Samsung Airs Galaxy Z Flip Ad During Oscars Ahead of Official Release

While many have been eagerly awaiting the official launch of the latest range of Galaxy smartphones at tomorrow’s Unpacked 2020 event, Samsung threw us a curveball when it aired a full commercial for the Galaxy Z Flip smartphone, almost two days before it’s officially unveiled.

Two weeks ago, the Korean manufacturer announced its update to the Galaxy A range of smartphones while awaiting the Galaxy S20 to launch.

In recent years, Samsung has been known to tease some of its latest smartphones by means of mysterious ads and videos on various platforms, revealing the device at specific angles where not much can be made out apart from a few curves. This time, however, the company decided to reveal the entire Z Flip smartphone, the much-anticipated sequel to the Galaxy Fold.

The video gives us a complete look at how the device will fold and potentially operate. While there are still some features and specifications to be revealed, most would have been awaiting the reveal of the design over anything else. The ad reveals the two colours available upon release, purple and black.

Interestingly, the ad also adds some fine print, “You may notice a small crease in the centre of the main screen, which is a natural characteristic of the screen.” Many were wondering whether or not it would have been able to improve on the previous designs, such as the Motorola Razr, which has already proven to be troublesome as a result of the ‘inward’ fold.

As Samsung continues to go big with events such as the Oscars in recent years, there’s still a lot to be revealed about the Galaxy Z Flip, such as the South African pricing, not to mention the eagerly awaited Galaxy S20 range of smartphones. Stay tuned for our coverage over the next day or two.
