Disney+’s Loki Series Adds Gugu Mbatha-Raw to the Cast

Disney+’s Loki Series Adds Gugu Mbatha-Raw To the Cast

Marvel fans got their first brief glimpse at a scene from Loki earlier this month. However, the series is still rounding out its supporting cast. Deadline brings word that Gugu Mbatha-Raw has just signed on to star opposite Tom Hiddleston on the show. Details are scarce, but she might be playing the series’ female lead.

Mbatha-Raw was most recently seen on The Morning Show, which premiered on Apple TV+ last fall. Last year, she also appeared in Motherless Brooklyn and voiced Seladon on Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Her other screen credits include Fast ColorBeauty and the Beast, Concussion, The Cloverfield Paradox, and J.J. Abrams’ short-lived Undercovers series on NBC.

Disney+ recently teased its upcoming slate of Marvel-themed programming in a much-talked-about Super Bowl spot. Aside from our first look at Loki, the commercial debuted footage from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision. Since Loki only began filming last month, they couldn’t show us much. Regardless, seeing Hiddleston clad in what looked like a prisoner’s get-up certainly piqued fans’ interest. The series will reportedly show the God of Mischief traveling through time and leaving his mark on various crucial moments in human history.

Mbatha-Raw joins a cast that currently includes Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, and Owen Wilson. Loki will apparently feature events that somehow set up the plot of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Loki will premiere it’s six-episode first season in early 2021.

What are your thoughts on Gugu-Mbatha Raw joining the series’ cast? Do you have any theories about who she’s playing? Let us know in the comment section below!
