Everyone knows that Lex Luthor is Superman’s archenemy. The Man Of Steel and Luthor have clashed multiple times over the years. However, Superman isn’t afraid of Lex Luthor, not really. The list of beings Superman fears is very short. In fact, two names appear on it- Doomsday…. and Brainiac. Brainiac is a cybernetic organism that travels the cosmos trying to learn and how he does it very simple- he steals a city off of a planet, shrinks it, and destroys the rest of the world, adding the shrunken city to his collection.
Beyond the amazing technology at his disposal, Brainiac is also a physical threat that can stand toe to toe with Superman. He’s the total package when it comes to villainy and when it’s broken down like that, it’s a wonder he’s not Superman deadliest foe. He’s even stolen a Kryptonian city. So, how would the heroes of the Marvel Universe deal with Brainiac? Who would fall to him? Who could stand against him? This list is going to try and answer those questions.
10 Would Lose To: Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful sorcerers in the Marvel Universe. Armed with all kinds of magical artifacts and some of the most powerful spells, Strange has stood against the forces of chaos for years. Brainiac is a mighty foe, but Strange would beat him.
Magic is highly illogical and it’s something Brainiac wouldn’t have any defense against. Strange has battled armies of demons, so he could handle any drones that Brainiac could throw at him. Eventually, he’d take the fight to Brainiac and, using his magical might, take Brainiac down.
9 Would Defeat: Captain America
Captain America is one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe. With his teammates in the Avengers, he’s faced all kinds of terrible threats and on his own has saved his country many times. However, he wouldn’t be able to stand against Brainiac.
It’s doubtful that Cap would even get to face Brainiac one on one. Brainiac just has too many resources and Cap, as strong as he is, can only handle so much before he tires out. One of Brainiac’s drones would land a lucky shot and that would be that.
8 Would Lose To: Silver Surfer
Norrin Radd, to save his homeworld, became the herald of Galactus. Imbued with the Power Cosmic, he would become the Silver Surfer and eventually turn against Galactus. Using the tremendous power given to him, Silver Surfer has made it his mission to protect the people of the cosmos.
Brainiac and Galactus have a lot in common, but the one place where they differ is power level. Brainiac is powerful, but he’s nowhere Galactus’s level. Surfer has the kind of power to break through Brainiac’s defenses and take the fight to him. Brainiac would fall to the Surfer’s Power Cosmic fueled might.
7 Would Defeat: Spider-Man
Spider-Man is one of the foremost heroes in the Marvel Universe. Even when the odds are against him, he never stops fighting. It’s this indomitable will that has served him well over the years, allowing him to take down enemies who he should have no chance against. Brainiac would not be one of those fights.
Spider-Man could more than likely get through Brainiac’s defenses. He’s very good. Unfortunately, once he’s face to face with Brainiac, there’s just nothing much he could do that would phase Brainiac. Brainiac can exchange blows with Superman. Spider-Man just doesn’t have that kind of strength.
6 Would Lose To: Magneto
The Mutant Master Of Magnetism, Magneto is one of the most powerful mutants on the face of the Earth. His ability to control magnetic fields means that anything made of metal is his plaything. The bad news for Brainiac is most of his stuff is made of metal.
Magneto would disassemble everything Brainiac threw at him. He would take apart Brainiac’s ship and use the pieces to bludgeon the cybernetic monstrosity. Brainiac would never get a chance to unleash his physical might against Magneto.
5 Would Defeat: The Hulk
The Hulk is one of the most feared beings on not only the planet Earth but throughout the Marvel Universe. Don’t let the movies lead you astray- even Thanos is frightened of the Hulk. There are few beings who could defeat the Hulk straight up… and Brainiac would be one of them.
Hulk would smash Brainiac’s drones, but Brainiac would be using that time to analyze the Green Goliath. He would easily figure out a way to drain off the Hulk’s gamma energy and then, well, it’s just puny Banner against Brainiac. Brainiac wins.
4 Would Lose To: Mister Fantastic
Reed Richards is one of the smartest human beings on the planet and that’s what is going to allow him to defeat Brainiac. Reed Richards has spent all of his spare time studying the mysteries of the cosmos and has created some of the most complicated technology in history. With his teammates in the Fantastic Four, he’s also faced some of the greatest threats in history.
His stretching abilities would allow him to survive Brainiac’s onslaught, but it’s his brain that would win the fight. He’s faced similar threats to Brainiac in the past and he’d be able to figure out a way to take control of Brainiac’s tech and use it against him.
3 Would Defeat: The Thing
Mister Fantastic’s teammate and oldest friend, Ben Grimm is the Thing. Given superstrength and a rocky exterior by the accident that gave the Fantastic Four their powers, the Thing is the powerhouse of the team. Unfortunately, his brawn is no match for Brainiac’s.
He would be able to fight his way to Brainiac, though, because he’s very good. However, he’s just not strong enough to hurt Brainiac. The fistfight would last for a little bit, but in the end, Brainiac would take him down.
2 Would Lose To: Thor
Thor is the God Of Thunder and, as such, is wildly powerful. Armed with the magical hammer Mjolnir, Thor had been battling foes for centuries before being sent to Earth by his father Odin to learn humility. He would join the Avengers and become one of the greatest heroes of them all.
Thor would be able to weather any assault Brainiac made against him… and he’d enjoy the fight because he could cut loose. He would trash Brainiac’s ship and when he got face to face with the alien cyborg, well, their battle would be legendary. Brainiac would fall.
1 Would Defeat: Iron Man
Tony Stark is Iron Man, one of the planet’s greatest engineers. He’s proven that he can build nearly anything and beyond that, his Iron Man armor makes him a formidable foe. Unfortunately, nothing he has will be enough to stand against Brainiac.
First off, he’s just not smart enough to deal with a being on Brainiac’s level. Tony is smart. He’s no Reed Richards, though. Secondly, his armor is powerful, but against someone who can take on Superman? Yeah, no. He might be able to get to Brainiac, but he’d never survive the battle. Brainiac wouldn’t even keep Iron Man’s armor as a trophy because of how primitive he’d find it.
