DC’s The Sandman will be adapted in a multi-part audio drama for Amazon’s Audible. The series will be narrated and executived produced by Sandman co-creator Neil Gaiman. Dirk Maggs is writing the adaptation and directing it.

“Almost 30 years ago, Dirk Maggs approached DC about adapting The Sandman into audio form,” Gaiman said in a statement. “I’m glad it didn’t happen, because we are in a Golden Age of audio drama right now, and Dirk and I are much better at what we are doing. This is a rich audio adaptation of The Sandman graphic novels, brilliantly crafted by Dirk Maggs, with an all-star cast.”

Maggs previously adapted several DC stories including Batman: Knightfall and Batman: The Lazarus Syndrome, for BBC Radio. Hachette also adapted Kingdom Come into an audio drama.

Alongside the audio drama, a live-action Sandman TV series is in development at Netflix, and DC has a pop-up group of comic titles called Sandman Universe.

Audible’s Sandman audio drama is scheduled to debut this summer, with plans for French, German, Italian, and Spanish editions to follow.
