KODANSHA Signs Exclusive Agreement With DIAMOND UK Despite Shutdown

Manga publisher Kodansha has signed an exclusive partnership with Diamond Comic Distributors U.K. to distribute Kodansha titles in the U.K. and Ireland, effective August 1.

Kodansha’s well-known output for western audiences includes Attack on Titan, Akira, Sailor Moon, Ghost in the Shell and more.

This exclusive deal was announced on the heels of Diamond’s announcement that it will pause its distribution operations both in North America and the U.K. in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, which has interrupted supply chains and retail outlets for various industries including comic books. Normal operations are expected to resume later this year, though no specific timeframe has been outlined, and Diamond is moving forward on new deals that presumes that eventual resumption.
