Star Trek: Picard – 7 Ups & 5 Downs From Season 1

Well, that’s it.

Star Trek: Picard, the first thing to move the lore of the franchise forward since the opening scenes of Star Trek 2009, and the first one to do it substantially since Star Trek: Nemesis has concluded its first season. For some, it was a brave new direction, for others too far a departure, but regardless it’s been a hell of a ride.

A story that started off with one man quietly slipping further into retirement as the galaxy moved on without him, the ghosts of his past and the memory of his friend drag him back into the action and the cosmos. 20 years have passed since the death of Data, but he still plays on the mind of Jean-Luc Picard and the appearance of a woman who may indirectly be his daughter sets us on our way.

From there we’ve assembled a new crew, become embroiled in intergalactic conspiracies, threatened by a synthetic alien superpredator race that seeks to wipe out all organic life in the galaxy, and even stopped by The Riker’s for pizza. But how well did all of this land? How boldly did it go where no Star Trek show had gone in decades? Let’s find out…
