Bachelor Peter Weber Says Breakup with Madison Prewett Lasted 6 Hours

Peter Weber just revealed that his breakup conversation with Madison Prewett after the season finale of The Bachelor lasted six full hours. While the couple separated in record time, even for a Bachelor Nation relationship, the decision came after a lot of reflection and conversation.

Peter and Madison had a tumultuous relationship on Peter’s season of The Bachelor. Although they obviously cared deeply for one another, their values, particularly regarding sex, didn’t align. They broke up on the season when Madison decided to send herself home, but their feelings for each other weren’t resolved. During the season finale, Peter revealed that he proposed to Hannah Ann Sluss, broke off their engagement, and rekindled things with Madison. While many fans were happy about the new relationship, Peter’s mom was clearly upset. She explicitly stated that she didn’t think Peter and Madison would work and made it clear that she had no love in her heart for Madison. The confrontation led to an incredibly dramatic season finale, and fans were left wondering if Peter and Madison would make it through the drama.

Just a few days after the finale aired, we got our answer. Peter and Madison announced on their Instagram that they decided to go separate ways, leading to much speculation about the cause of their breakup. On a recent episode of The Viall Files podcast, Peter opened up about the split for the first time. He first explained that he and Madison were supposed to do some press after the finale aired, but neither of them was in the right headspace to talk to the media. He said, “She went to her hotel to talk to her family for a bit, then she came over to my hotel … that was mainly just [us] trying to be there for each other.” Peter went on to explain that he and Madison were separated the next day, doing their own thing and spending quality time with their families.

Madison Prewett crying Bachelor

On the second day after the finale aired, Peter and Madison finally got a chance to talk. Peter explained, “The second day was when we pretty much spent the entire day together, that was…okay, let’s figure this out. I remember going to her hotel… it was super sad. For probably six hours, we stayed on her bed there, we laughed, we cried, we hugged each other… it was rough.” Since it was their first off-camera time ever, Peter and Madison attempted to work through their problems while also enjoying each other’s company. They oscillated between just hanging out and actually talking through their issues, which is why the conversation lasted as long as it did. Eventually, they realized that their lifestyles were just too different to have a healthy relationship. Peter insisted, however, that nothing about his relationship with Madison was fake. Peter explained, “Right now, from the horse’s mouth, none of that was fake.” He continued, None of that was staged, put on by the show, making it seem like I was into Madi.”

Six hours seems like a long time to have a breakup conversation, but it’s worth noting that Peter and Madison hadn’t spent any time alone, without the cameras, up until that point. Much of their conversation  probably involved talking through what had happened on the season and figuring out what their lives might look like moving forward. While their breakup felt like a hasty decision for fans, it’s obvious Peter and Madison both felt at peace with their choice.
