Giga, A Cross Between Neon Genesis Evangelion and Knives Out

Last year, Bleeding Cool ran the news that White Noise writer Alex Paknadel and John Lê had a new comic book coming out called GIGĀ. Today that became much more official with The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reporting the news somehow. They also interview the creators and running preview artwork. More than just the screencap we managed to get. Dubbing it Neon Genesis Evangelion meets Knives Out, or a murder mystery with giant robots, Giga appears to be set in a world recovering from a major disaster that has impacted everyone’s lives. Just, in this case, it’s what happened after the giant robots stopped fighting the giant monsters. Graeme McMillan of THR describes it as: “set in a world where the dormant mechs became living homes for humanity after fighting had destroyed every large city on the planet, the new series tells the story of what happens when one of the mechs — now worshipped by humanity as living gods — dies in mysterious circumstances.”

Paknadel also tells them “I joke that Giga is a murder mystery with giant robots, but in truth, it’s a book about a deicide — about what happens when gods and their attendant belief systems die. Sometimes history deems these deaths necessary, even if they lead to great schisms, demagoguery, or even war; however, the lesson from history — and, I would argue, from our turbulent present — is that we need to be very careful in how we go about replacing our gods. Giga is set in a world on the cusp of one of these convulsions.”

THR states that Giga is currently scheduled for a July launch, but these days who knows. Back in November, Bleeding Cool also reported in November that Paknadel has a collaboration with fellow White Noise studios writer Dan Watters also planned for Vault Comics. As ever, Bleeding Cool will continue to report on whatever it is the White Noise Boys are getting up to, very occasionally before they know themselves.
