Delays Affect Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 3, Marvel Studios And The Sony-Verse

Delays have affected Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 3, a number of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony’s own Marvel projects.

With delays affecting movies from every major studio, it comes as no surprise that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has shifted key dates in its timeline in the wake of the shutdown of movie theaters. And since Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has one foot in Disney’s door and another in Sony’s, the Web-Slinger’s third outing alongside a number of other projects in the Sony-Verse have also been delayed to later dates.

Although Tom Holland’s next outing as Spider-Man was originally set to hit theaters on July 16th, 2021, it has been pushed back by four months, taking Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ slot on November 5th, 2021. During a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Holland mentioned that he isn’t sure if he’ll film the sequel or Uncharted first, since he and Mark Wahlberg were sent home on their first day of filming the video game adaptation.

A number of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have also been delayed aside from Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder which will actually arrive a week earlier than planned, moving up to February 11th, 2022. With Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2 currently aiming for May 6th and the Captain Marvel sequel starring Brie Larson arriving on July 8th, that gives Marvel fans four Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in one year. It’s worth pointing out that The New Mutants was also taken off Disney’s slate and does currently not have a release date.

Fans were expecting to see more from Sony’s own Marvel universe later this year, but unfortunately, Jared Leto’s Morbius has been moved back to March 19th, 2021. Meanwhile, the sequel to Tom Hardy’s Venom has a new date of June 25th 2021. We recently found out that the symbiote’s sequel will be titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage, teasing the arrival of Woody Harrelson’s villainous Cletus Kassady. It’ll be interesting to see whether Spider-Man will be addressed or even cameo in the Venom sequel, given the Morbius trailer hinted towards the death of Mysterio in graffiti spotted near Jared Leto’s titular character.

Unfortunately, it isn’t just the live-action movies that have been affected. The sequel to the critically-acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has also been delayed until October 7th, 2022. Producer Amy Pascal did say that it will focus on the growing relationship between Miles Morales and the alternate version of Gwen Stacy. Hopefully, we’ll get to see Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara, A.K.A. Spider-Man 2099, since he showed up in the post-credits scene of the first film.

Here is the synopsis for the latest live-action Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Far From Home:

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, Numan Acar, J.B.
