My Top 290 Retro Mecha Anime Openings | Pre-2000

I would rather call it a „Retro Mecha Opening Encyclopedia”, than a toplist
Be ready for a pretty sleepy taste with some unusual takes. Please remember that it’s only my opinion.

I’m rating the songs based on my personal taste and how much i like them. Thus “technically worse”(in terms of vocal, or music quality) songs can be placed before “technically better” ones. The visuals or how popular/important/good the show is does not affect the score, some of my favorites are pretty low here.
Also, this is nearly top 300. I know that everyone would like to see their favorites in the first 100, but sometimes it’s impossible, especially with so many great entries. I like nearly everything here, and love the whole top 200.

Some additional info:
☆ as I didn’t watched all of the shows in the video, and I’ve seen some serious arguments about whether something is mecha or not, I simply gathered everythind that has a „mecha” tag on Mal, so cyborgs, robo-girls, girls in armor suits, robo-animals, tanks and is-this-really-mecha-or-not are allowed
☆ with a “+” song, top has 290 tracks in total
☆ only shows that premiered before the year 2000. If one got another opening in 2000 or later, I also included it (Turn A, Big O)
☆ only japanese productions (so no Hamos, for example)
☆ up to 2 different versions of the same song. I decided to not include Sakura Taisen: Gouka Kenran ops, as there are 5 versions of the same song, simply performed by different seiyuus. I left only the original one
☆ instrumentals are accepted too
☆ even through I did a pretty big research to made this list as complete as possible, there’s a possibility that I’ve missed some OVAs and movies – if you know a song that I didn’t include in my video, please link it in the comments!
