One of the biggest disappointments for fans regarding the failure of the Dceu was Ben Affleck’s exit from the role of Batman. Before he hung up the cape and the cowl, Affleck was set to write, direct and star in The Batman. Joe Manganiello was poised to feature as the main villain Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke in the film. During an interview, Manganiello revealed what the solo Batffleck movie would have been like.
“There were similarities to [1997’s] The Game. It was a really dark story in which Deathstroke was like a shark or a horror movie villain that was dismantling Bruce’s life from the inside out. It was this systemic thing: He killed everyone close to Bruce and destroyed his life to try and make him suffer because he felt that Bruce was responsible for something that happened to him. It was really cool, really dark and really hard.
Many people thought that Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke was going to wind up as the single most pointless addition to the Dceu’s mythology, and for good reason. Though his post-credits cameo in Justice League pointed to bigger and better things, it wasn’t long before Warner Bros. changed their plans.
Filmmaker Zack Snyder is hard at work completing the long-awaited “Snyder cut” of 2017’s Justice League. The feature will be released as a four-hour special on HBO Max next year. Snyder fans know the filmmaker’s original intention had been to make Justice League as a trilogy, and many are wondering if Zack Snyder’s Justice League will also be a three-movie series. In an interview with Ping Pong Flix, Snyder gave his own perspective on possible sequels.
“I don’t have any expectation that there would be more movies than this. If that happened, that would be amazing — but that bridge is far away. Frankly I’m cool.”
So for the moment at least, Snyder does not seem to be thinking beyond the upcoming Zack Snyder’s Justice League to any sequels. In a past interview, Snyder had hinted that the upcoming film will end at the point where the main villain Darkseid comes to Earth,
Of course, Slade Wilson was being positioned to play a major role in the sequel, but that never happened. He was also set to be the antagonist of Ben Affleck’s The Batman, but as with Justice League 2, that also didn’t end up coming to fruition. And that’s all without mentioning the fact that he was supposed to star in a solo outing as well which – you guessed it – failed to materialize.
However, we know that he’ll get another chance to shine now that he’s being brought back for Zack Snyder’s all-new take
After one of the most passionate fan campaigns of all time, longtime supporters of director Zack Snyder are finally going to see his version of the Justice League movie with HBO Max’s The Snyder Cut. After leaving production on the 2017 superhero movie following a family tragedy, Snyder has now revealed that the main reason he wanted to return to tell his story was to fulfil the promise he made to the movie’s cast.
“I pitch them [Warner Brothers] the movie, right? Like I go, you’re gonna be this. This is where it’s going, right? Justice League. And when I talk about Jason [Momoa] or Ezra [Miller], it’s starting, it’s like way back to BvS years ago. Same with Amy [Adams]… it was about, that we were going somewhere? And I feel like when this opportunity arrived and came to me, I got this call. Toby Emmerich called me to say ‘Hey, is this thing you’d be interested in doing?
Zack Snyder’s Justice League was originally set to tell the first half of a two-part story, with the sequel arriving after Ben Affleck’s The Batman. It would be an understatement to say that the landscape of the Dceu has changed pretty drastically since then, though, and we’re still waiting on Snyder to put his finishing touches on the all-star superhero blockbuster, while Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves’ The Batman will be with us in March 2022.
