Jim Lee, a comic-book artist, writer, editor, and publisher of Korean American descent, currently holds the positions of Publisher and Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics. He has been recognized for his contributions with awards such as the Harvey Award, Inkpot Award, and three Wizard Fan Awards. Lee began his career in 1987 at Marvel Comics, where he illustrated titles such as Alpha Flight and The Punisher War Journal. However, it was his work on The Uncanny X-Men that propelled him to popularity. One of his notable achievements is co-writing and penciling X-Men 1, the premiere of a spin-off series in 1991, which has been acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the best-selling comic book of all time. Notably, Lee’s distinctive style also influenced the designs of X-Men: The Animated Series.

In 1992, Lee and a group of artists formed Image Comics, their own publishing company. Lee published titles like WildC.A.T.s and Gen through his studio, WildStorm Productions. However, being a publisher took away from his time as an illustrator, so in 1998 he sold WildStorm to DC Comics. He continued to oversee it as a DC imprint until 2010. During this time, he also illustrated successful titles set in DC’s main fictional universe, including the year-long storylines “Batman: Hush” and “Superman: For Tomorrow.” He worked on books like Superman Unchained and the New 52 run of Justice League. On February 18, 2010, Lee became the new Co-Publisher of DC Comics alongside Dan DiDio, replacing Paul Levitz.

In addition to his work as an illustrator for comics, he has also taken on roles as a designer or creative director for various DC products, including action figures, video games, branded automobiles, and backpacks. Furthermore, Lee has contributed his design skills to album covers and even created a monster-themed cereal for General Mills’ 2014 Halloween edition, showcasing his versatility beyond the realm of comics..
