Doctor Stephen Strange is a fictional character that appears in Marvel Comics’ American comic novels. The character was created by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee[5] and first appears in Strange Tales #110. (cover-dated July 1963). Doctor Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme, the world’s foremost protector against magical and mystical perils. During the Silver Age of Comic Books, Strange was developed to add a new type of character and mystique to Marvel Comics.

After a car accident badly damages his hands beyond repair, the character begins as an exceptionally brilliant but egotistical surgeon who loses his ability to operate. He meets the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme, while searching the globe for healing. Strange enrols in his classes and learns to master both mystical and martial skills. He collects a number of mystical items, including the powerful Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation, and moves into the Sanctum Sanctorum, which is located at 177A Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village, New York City. Strange takes on the role of Sorcerer Supreme and defends the world from supernatural perils alongside his buddy and valet Wong.

In the 1978 television film Dr. Strange, Peter Hooten played the character for the first time in live-action. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Doctor Strange (2016), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), as well as the animated series What If…?, Benedict Cumberbatch portrays Stephen Strange (2021).

Doctor Strange Powers

Doctor Strange is a practising magician who gains his abilities from mystical beings such as Agamotto, Cyttorak, Ikonn, Oshtur, Raggadorr, and Watoomb, who donate their energies to spells. Strange also possesses mystical artefacts such as the Cloak of Levitation, which allows him to fly, the Eye of Agamotto, an amulet whose light is used to negate evil magic, the Book of the Vishanti, a grimoire containing vast knowledge of white magic, and the Orb of Agamotto, a crystal ball used for clairvoyance.

Strange is skilled in multiple martial arts disciplines, including judo, and has demonstrated expertise with a variety of magically produced weapons, including swords and axes. Strange had a successful career as a neurosurgeon before nerve injury caused him to lose control of his hands.

Eternity, the sentience of the Marvel Universe, calls Doctor Strange “the mightiest magician in the cosmos” and “far more powerful than any of your fellow humanoids.” Beginning with the 1973 plot in which the Ancient One dies, he is known as Sorcerer Supreme, and he has held the title ever since, with the exception of a brief period from 1992 to 1995. In a 2009 tale, he relinquishes the title once more, but reclaims it in a 2012 story when he demonstrates that he is determined to safeguard the planet even without the title.

Doctor Strange Creation

Steve Ditko, the artist, and Stan Lee, the writer, have both stated that the character was originally Ditko’s idea “I brought a five-page pencilled story with a page/panel script of my idea for a new, different kind of character for variety in Marvel Comics to Lee on my own. Because he would appear in Strange Tales, my character was given the name Dr. Strange.” Lee referred to the character as Ditko’s conception in a 1963 letter to Jerry Bails, writing:

Steve Ditko is going to draw a new character for Strange Tales (just a 5-page filler named Dr. Strange). It has a dark magic theme to it. The first story isn’t great, but maybe we can make something of him— it was Steve’s idea, so I figured we’d give it a shot, even if we rushed the first one too much. Little aside: I considered calling him Mr. Strange, but the “Mr.” seemed too close to Mr. Fantastic — now, however, I recall seeing a villain named Dr. Strange in one of our magazines recently, so perhaps it won’t be too confused.

The Marvel brand, which had been in use for many years, was officially established as the core brand of the corporation.

In addition to well-known superheroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Wolverine, and Captain Marvel, popular superhero teams such as the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy, can be found in the Marvel universe. In addition, Marvel has published a number of licenced material from other organisations. This contains Star Wars comics published twice between 1977 and 1986, as well as comics published since 2015.
