To celebrate the gripping drug drama’s 10th anniversary, Entertainment Weekly reunited the cast for a Breaking Bad Reunion in 2018. Watch the PeopleTV special with creator Vince Gilligan, stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Bob Odenkirk, Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, Giancarlo Esposito, Jonathan Banks, and RJ Mitte as they recall how the series all began, revisit the joys and challenges of playing their characters and get emotional looking back at how the show changed their lives in the first ever Breaking Bad Reunion.

Vince Gilligan is the brains behind the American neo-Western criminal drama television series Breaking Bad, which he also created and produces. Albuquerque, New Mexico serves as the location for both the setting and filming of the show, which recounts the narrative of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a low-paid, overqualified, and disheartened high school chemistry teacher who is coping with a recent diagnosis of stage three lung cancer. In order to ensure the financial stability of his family before he passes away, Walter decides to turn to a life of crime. He forms a business partnership with his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) and begins manufacturing and distributing crystal meth. This forces Walter to face the perils of the criminal underworld. Gilligan explains that the phrase “to raise hell” is the origin of the title, which is a Southern slang term. A total of 62 episodes were shown during five seasons of the show during its run on AMC, which began on January 20, 2008 and ended on September 29, 2013.

Betsy Brandt and Dean Norris play the roles of Skyler’s sister Marie Schrader and her husband Hank, who works for the DEA. Other cast members include Anna Gunn and RJ Mitte, who play Walter’s wife Skyler and son Walter Jr., respectively. RJ Mitte also plays the role of Walter’s son. Other notable actors include Giancarlo Esposito as the drug lord Gus Fring, Jonathan Banks as the private investigator and fixer Mike Ehrmantraut, and Bob Odenkirk as Walter and Jesse’s sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman. Jesse Plemons plays the role of the criminally ambitious Todd Alquist, while Laura Fraser plays the role of Lydia Rodarte-Quayle, a shrewd business executive who is secretly handling Walter’s global meth sales for her company. Both characters are introduced in the final season.

The first season of Breaking Bad was met with generally positive reviews from critics, whereas the show’s subsequent seasons were universally praised by reviewers. Following the conclusion of the show, it has been hailed by television reviewers as one of the best television series that has ever been produced. It received a satisfactory amount of viewers throughout its first three seasons, but after it was made accessible on Netflix just before the launch of the fourth season, it witnessed a moderate increase in the number of viewers for seasons four and five. Following the broadcast of the first half of the fifth season’s second half in 2013, the number of viewers dramatically climbed.

By the time the last episode of the series was broadcast, it had become one of the cable television programmes in the United States with the highest number of viewers. A total of sixteen Primetime Emmy Awards, eight Satellite Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two Peabody Awards, two Critics’ Choice Awards, and four Television Critics Association Awards were bestowed upon the programme. The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series has been won by Bryan Cranston four times. The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series has been won by Aaron Paul three times. The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series has been won by Anna Gunn twice. The year 2013 saw Breaking Bad earn the title of the most critically praised television show in the history of the Guinness World Records.

Better Call Saul, a prequel series to Breaking Bad, debuted on AMC on February 8, 2015, and is currently airing its sixth and final season. The series stars Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, and Giancarlo Esposito reprising their roles from Breaking Bad, as well as many others making guest and recurring appearances. On October 11, 2019, the second instalment of the Breaking Bad film franchise, titled El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and featuring Paul, was made available on Netflix and in movie theatres.

Breaking Bad is a television series that takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, between the years of 2008 and 2010, and tells the story of Walter White, a shy high school chemistry teacher who becomes a ruthless player in the local methamphetamine drug trade. He is motivated to do so by his desire to financially provide for his family after being informed that he has terminal lung cancer. Initially producing only small amounts of meth with his old student Jesse Pinkman in a rolling meth lab, Walter and Jesse gradually extend their operations to produce larger batches of a rare blue meth that is very pure and generates a great demand for the substance.

In order to conceal his true identity, Walter decides to go by the name “Heisenberg.” Because of the drug-related activities he engages in, Walter will eventually find himself at odds with his family, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) via his brother-in-law Hank Schrader, the local gangs, and the Mexican drug cartels (including their regional distributors), putting his life and the lives of his family in danger. All of these parties will be involved as a result of Walter’s drug-related activities.

Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, is a high school chemistry teacher who, shortly after turning 50 and receiving a diagnosis of Stage III lung cancer, decides to start manufacturing methamphetamine in order to provide for his family financially. As his illicit enterprise continues to flourish, Walter, using the identity “Heisenberg,” earns a reputation for being a legendary criminal. According to what Cranston said,

Skyler White, played by Anna Gunn, is the wife of Walter White. She was expecting their second child prior to Walter’s diagnosis, and after he began behaving in unusual ways, Skyler began to develop a growing level of mistrust in her relationship with her husband. Skyler is someone that Gunn describes as “grounded, tough, smart, and motivated.” Skyler’s writing career, which is now on hold, is Gunn’s greatest aspiration.

Aaron Paul stars in the role of Jesse Pinkman, Walter’s longtime collaborator in the kitchen and a former student. Paul regards Jesse as a funny youngster. “He’s just this lost soul; I don’t think he’s a horrible kid; I think he just got tangled up in the wrong crowd,” said the other person. Paul continued to elucidate on the history of the character by noting, “He did not come from a family where alcoholism or abuse was tolerated. But it’s possible that he just couldn’t connect with his father; perhaps Jesse found his father to be too prim and proper for his tastes.” Paul drew parallels between the character’s dynamic with Walt and the sitcom The Odd Couple.
