Rob McElhenney, an American actor, and Ryan Reynolds, a Canadian-American actor, made public their intention to purchase Wrexham A.F.C. in September 2020. Wrexham A.F.C. is a Welsh professional association football club that plays its home games at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham, which is located in north-east Wales in the United Kingdom.

By November 2020, RR McReynolds had been established as a business, and the transaction had been finalised by February 2021. At the time of the purchase, Wrexham A.F.C. was competing in the National League, which is the fifth and lowest level of the English football league system, placed directly below the Premier League and the three levels of the English Football League system.

The club also admitted that it was experiencing a “threat to the[ir] continued existence.” Prior to the purchase by the two individuals, Wrexham A.F.C. had been owned by the Wrexham Supporter’s Trust since 2011, which is a company that is controlled by the club’s fans.

The McElhenney and Reynolds $2 million acquisition received 98.6 percent of the trust’s vote of approval. Following the completion of the transaction, the official Wrexham A.F.C. Twitter account shared a sketch that included McElhenney and Reynolds doing a spoof of an advertisement for Ifor Williams Trailers, which was the club’s sole sponsor at the time. The trust at first declined to accept any offer of a takeover made via an intermediary; but, after learning that McElhenney and Reynolds were behind the proposal, “they rapidly changed their minds.”

Before 2011, management was said to have “mismanaged the club to the point where it was nearly collapse,” and fans were said to be “beginning to fall out of love with it.” In 2011, a winding-up order was issued to the club, and it was eventually liquidated.

The show is said to have been inspired by Sunderland ‘Til I Die, which prompted McElhenney to be interested in purchasing an association football club, in addition to the influence of Humphrey Ker, who was also interested in purchasing a club. Both of these factors combined to inspire the creation of the series.

The focus of the documentary series is on the efforts made by the Hollywood couple to resurrect the third-oldest professional association football team in the world, which was established in 1864, as well as how well the team has done while the Hollywood couple has owned it. It is known that neither of them has any prior experience managing a sports team. The series would also emphasise the pair’s goals of bringing about positive change to the city of Wrexham and enhancing the club.

Wrexham’s position in the National League standings has improved both during and after the acquisition of the club. Wrexham A.F.C. finished in last position in the 2019–20 National League (before to any takeover rumours), but by the next season, they had climbed all the way up to eighth place. Wrexham Football Club finished the 2021–22 season in second place, although they were not promoted to the EFL League Two. This was the first season that the couple had control of the club.

Ryan Reynolds is a Canadian-American actor, producer, and co-owner of the Welsh association football team Wrexham A.F.C. He was born in Canada on October 23, 1976, and he currently resides in the United States. During the course of his 30-year career in cinema and television, he has been honoured with a number of prestigious awards, including a Critics’ Choice Movie Award, three People’s Choice Awards, a Grammy nomination, a Golden Globe nomination, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He is one of the highest-grossing film performers of all time, with a worldwide box-office gross that is over $5 billion, primarily as a result of his multiple appearances as Deadpool in the X-Men films produced by 20th Century Fox.

The X-Men flicks Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), both produced by 20th Century Fox, in which Reynolds portrayed the main character, were Reynolds’s most successful endeavours in terms of box office receipts. As a result of his performance in the former film, he was nominated for awards at both the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. The former film broke multiple records for an R-rated comedy at the time of its release.

2017 marked the year that Reynolds was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was formerly married to the actress Scarlett Johansson from 2008 to 2011, and he has been married to the actress Blake Lively since 2012. Together, the couple has three daughters.
