PINOCCHIO is a stop-motion musical adventure that was reimagined by Guillermo del Toro, who won the Academy Award for Best Director for his previous film, CRIMSON PEAK. Pinocchio is on a quest to find his place in the world, and you may follow his naughty exploits along the way.

Carlo Collodi, an Italian author from Florence, Tuscany, created the fictional character Pinocchio in 1883 for his children’s book titled The Adventures of Pinocchio. Pinocchio is the protagonist of the book. Geppetto, a local woodcarver in a Tuscan town, was the one responsible for creating Pinocchio. Even though he was carved out of wood as a puppet, he has the secret desire to one day become a real boy. He is distinguished by his long nose, which, when he lies (as described in the novel only once, but in virtually all film and television adaptations of the story), gets longer.

Pinocchio is a literary and cultural phenomenon, as well as one of the most frequently reinterpreted characters in the history of children’s books. His narrative has been retold in a variety of other mediums, the most famous of which being the 1940 Disney film Pinocchio. In his novel, Collodi frequently spoke and wrote in the Italian Tuscan accent. Pino is also an abbreviation of Giuseppino, the diminutive for Giuseppe (the Italian form of Joseph); one of the men who greatly influenced Collodi when he was young was Giuseppe Aiazzi, a prominent Italian manuscript specialist who supervised Collodi at the Libreria Piatti bookshop in Florence.

The name Pinocchio is a combination of the Italian words pino (pine) and occhio (eye). Geppetto is the diminutive form of Geppo, which is the Tuscan pronunciation of the word ceppo, which can be translated as a log, stump, block, stock, or stub. Geppetto is the name of Pinocchio’s inventor and “father.”

The traditional fairy story of the wooden marionette who is mysteriously brought to life in order to soothe the heart of a bereaved woodcarver named Geppetto is reimagined in this film by Guillermo del Toro, winner of the Academy Award® for Best Director.

Pinocchio embarks on a series of mischievous and disobedient experiences in this delightful stop-motion animation directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson. Pinocchio is looking for a place in the world and is known for his disobedience.

The film is co-directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, and it has an all-star voice cast, with Ewan McGregor playing the role of Cricket, David Bradley playing the role of Geppetto, and Gregory Mann making his debut as Pinocchio.

In addition, the film stars Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett, Academy Award® winner John Turturro, Academy Award® winner Ron Perlman, Academy Award® winner Tim Blake Nelson, Academy Award® winner Burn Gorman, Academy Award® winner Christoph Waltz, and Academy Award® winner Tilda Swinton.

The upcoming stop-motion animated musical fantasy film Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (Spanish: Pinocho de Guillermo del Toro), or simply Pinocchio, is based on Gris Grimly’s design from his 2002 edition of the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. The film will be directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson.

This is del Toro’s first time directing an animated feature film, and the film is his debut. The story for the film was created by del Toro and Matthew Robbins, while the screenplay was written by del Toro, Gris Grimly, Patrick McHale, and Matthew Robbins. Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton all lend their voices to the characters in this animated film.

Pinocchio is an animated film that is being produced by Netflix Animation, The Jim Henson Company, and ShadowMachine in co-production with Pathé, El Taller del Chucho, and Necropia Entertainment. The project was announced by Del Toro in 2008 and was supposed to be released in 2013 or 2014; however, it has been delayed indefinitely due to problems with the development process.

In January of 2017, it was revealed that McHale would be co-writing the script. However, in November of that same year, development was halted because no studio was ready to give finance for the project. After Netflix had purchased the production rights, the next year saw a revival of the show’s production. It is scheduled to be published in the month of December 2022.
