In the Street Fighter video game series produced by Capcom, Balrog is a fictitious character. [1] In the 1991 video game Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, he makes his debut as a playable character. In the show, he is a former boxer who has fallen on hard times and now works as an enemy for M. Bison’s organisation, Shadaloo.

It is stated that Balrog is an African-American boxer who wears blue trunks with white trim, a white shirt that is torn underneath a blue tank top, red boxing gloves, and red boxing shoes. Following in the footsteps of the real-life boxer Mike Tyson, the character of Balrog is known as M. Bison in Japan. The letter serves as an initial for the word “Mike.” However, when working on the international versions of Street Fighter II, the creators changed the names of three of the boss characters for the English localization.

This was done because of concern that calling the boxer character “Mike Bison” could pose a legal risk. Ironically, many years later, Mike Tyson admitted that he had no knowledge of the persona, but that he appreciated the honour that was paid to him. In the Street Fighter series, Balrog is a large, enormous, and heavily built fighter. He stands at 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 metres) tall. When compared, Tyson has a height of only 5 feet 10.5 inches (1.79 metres). In competitive settings throughout the world, Balrog is more commonly referred to as Boxer.

In the first Street Fighter video game, there is a character named Mike who is also an African-American boxer who is 6 feet 3.5 inches (1.92 metres) tall and has an extraordinarily well-built physique. Mike is thought to be a prototype of Balrog despite the fact that he is acknowledged as a separate character.  This is due to the similarities in their names (especially when one considers the fact that Balrog’s Japanese name is Mike Bison) and gameplay.
