The 93rd Academy Awards is set to take place on February 21st, 2021, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. But right now, there are already some betting favorites regarding who will win the event’s top awards.

Tom Hanks

As of June 23rd, most online entertainment betting sites have veteran actor Tom Hanks as the odds on favorite to win the Best Actor award in 2021. Hanks will be appearing in two different roles which should make him the strongest contender to be named Best Actor at the 93rd Academy Awards.

The two-time Best Actor winner will play the role of Commander Ernest Krause of the U.S. Navy in the war drama Greyhound which is set to be released on July 10th, 2020. Hanks will return to the big screen on December 25th, 2020, as Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd in the movie News of the World. This film is based on the best-selling novel by Paulette Jiles. With two powerful movies on hand, there is no doubt that Hanks is a cinch to win his third Academy Award next year.

Eddie Redmayne

Eddie Redmayne’s name also stands out as one of the top favorites to win the Best Actor award at the 93rd Academy Awards. The 38-year-old Londoner has been nominated for the Best Actor Award for his portrayal of physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything in 2014 and his role as the transgender artist Lili Elbe in the film The Danish Girl in 2015, winning the award for the former.

Redmayne will appear as Tom Hayden, the co-founder of the Students for a Democratic Society, in the movie Trial of the Chicago 7, which is slated for release on September 25th, 2020. The movie is based on seven defendants who were charged by the federal government for the uprising at the 1968 Democratic Convention. With a powerful role, Redmayne has the opportunity to deliver a speech at the Oscars next year.

Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman isn’t just one of the highest-grossing actors ever with his films grossing an estimated $11 billion worldwide, he is also one of the most bemedaled actors of his generation. The 62-year-old is a versatile performer who has won the Academy Award, three British Academy Film Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Oldman is set to portray Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz in a Netflix biopic entitled Mank, which has an undated 2020 release date. With a role that will showcase his actor potential, Oldman is one of the favorites to win Best Actor. It can be recalled that Oldman’s last biopic role was when he played the role of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in the 2017 movie The Darkest Hour. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor that year.

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson gained fame for his performance as Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie franchise, which earned over $3.3 billion worldwide. But over the years, the 34-year-old from London has emerged as one of the big names in the movie industry by shunning big-budget films for independent productions which have earned him critical acclaim.

Pattinson will star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming spy film Tenet, which has a July 31st, 2020 release. The former Twilight star plays the role of a protagonist secret agent who embarks on a time-travel mission to prevent World War III. Like all of Nolan’s movies, Tenet is an incredibly complicated movie. And because it utilizes every bit of Pattinson’s acting talent, he could be in line to win Best Actor at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Adam Driver

Adam Driver is popular for his serious portrayal of Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy from 2015 throug 2019. But the 36-year-old from San Diego, California, has also received numerous accolades like the Volpi Cup, two Academy Awards nominations, three Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award for his outstanding performances.

Driver, who has been likened to a young Al Pacino and Edward Norton, continues his upward trajectory continues in 2020 and it’s only a matter of time before he wins that first hardware. That time could come as soon as the 93rd Academy Awards with the movie The Last Duel which will be released on Christmas Day 2020.
