The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films are a series of American superhero films produced by Marvel Studios based on characters that appear in publications by Marvel Comics. The MCU is the shared universe in which all of the films are set. The films have been in production since 2007, and in that time Marvel Studios has produced and released 23 films, with at least 14 more in various stages of development. It is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed over $22.5 billion at the global box office. This includes Avengers: Endgame, which is the highest-grossing film of all time.

Marvel Phase 1

Iron Man (2008)

Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor, is kidnapped by terrorists and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, he creates a high-tech suit of armor to escape. Upon returning home, he refines the suit and becomes the armored superhero Iron Man.

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

Bruce Banner, a scientist on the run from the U.S. government, seeks a cure for the gamma radiation that causes him to transform into the Hulk. As he battles his inner demons, he faces off against the monstrous Abomination, a creature of similar origin.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

As Tony Stark’s identity as Iron Man becomes public, he faces pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology. Meanwhile, a vengeful Russian scientist, Ivan Vanko, uses his own version of the technology to exact revenge.

Thor (2011)

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is cast out of Asgard by his father Odin and sent to Earth as punishment for his arrogance. Stripped of his powers, he learns humility and becomes a protector of humanity, earning back his place among the gods.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Set during World War II, Steve Rogers, a frail young man, volunteers for a top-secret experiment that transforms him into the super-soldier Captain America. He battles the Nazi-backed HYDRA organization, led by the Red Skull, and ultimately sacrifices himself, becoming frozen in ice for decades.

The Avengers (2012)

Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., assembles a team of superheroes—including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye—to stop Thor’s brother Loki from subjugating Earth with an alien army. Their alliance marks the formation of the Avengers.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Steve Rogers struggles to adapt to modern society while working for S.H.I.E.L.D. He uncovers a conspiracy within the organization and faces a formidable assassin known as the Winter Soldier, who has a mysterious connection to his past.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Peter Quill, a space adventurer, steals a mysterious orb and becomes the target of a manhunt led by the villainous Ronan the Accuser. He forms an uneasy alliance with a group of misfits—Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot—to save the galaxy.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and a father. Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside the Wasp to uncover secrets from their past.

Captain Marvel (2019)

Carol Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force pilot, becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes after an accident infuses her with cosmic powers. Amid a galactic war between two alien races, she uncovers the truth about her past and her role in the larger conflict.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
