George Miller is directing and co-writing the dark fantasy comedy-drama film Three Thousand Years of Longing, which is set to be released in 2022. It is a retelling of A. S. Byatt’s short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye,” which was adapted for this work. Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton are two of the film’s stars.

On May 20, 2022, during the Cannes Film Festival, the film Three Thousand Years of Longing was shown for the first time anywhere in the globe. It is set to have a theatrical release by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the United States on August 31, 2022 (through United Artists Releasing), and it is scheduled to have a theatrical release by Roadshow Entertainment in Australia on September 1, 2022.

PLOT

A learned woman who is happy with her life has an encounter with a djinn who promises to grant her three wishes in exchange for granting him his freedom. Their discussion, which takes place in a hotel room in Istanbul, ultimately results in outcomes that neither of them had anticipated.
