Goku is a powerful character, but he didn’t get there by himself. He had plenty of great masters that helped him along the way. Everyone from his adoptive grandfather to the gods themselves have passed wisdom down to Goku in some way, shape or form, which is why we decided to list them all in one place and summarize all of their great deeds and skills that they taught Goku throughout Dragon Ball.

This video lists, in chronological order, all of the people that’ve helped Goku get stronger, including Grandpa Gohan and Master Roshi in Dragon Ball, King Kai in Dragon Ball Z and Whis in Dragon Ball Super. Each installment of the series has seen Goku train with some new teacher, one that helps him push past his limits, learn a new technique or just get more skilled at using the power he already has. In doing so, each teacher has managed to change the face of the Dragon Ball franchise; Master Roshi introduced ki blasts like the Kamehameha, King Kai introduced the Kaioken and the Spirit Bomb, and Whis helped Goku and Vegeta develop Super Saiyan Blue.
