5 Games Fans Want to be Made Into Movies

The world of gaming and the world of films has always been closely connected. During the era of the Playstation 2 we would see most movies receive a tie-in video game. Everyone has fond memories of playing the Lego Star Wars game or exploring Hogwarts on the Harry Potter titles. But it isn’t just movies that get made into video games. Occasionally we see a game get the silver screen treatment.

These adaptations aren’t always a smash hit. Take the original Super Mario Bros movies from way back in 1993. It received mostly negative reviews from critics and casual viewers alike. But sometimes these adaptations are a home run, such as the new series of Sonic movies, featuring actor Ben Schwartz as the titular character.

Despite the risk of a game film being bad, the community will keep asking for them to be made. Everyone wants to see their favorite game turned into a major motion picture. So today we are going to look at 5 games fans want to be made into movies!

Dark Souls

One of the most difficult and intense games on the planet. The Souls series is known for being unforgiving, brutal, depressing, yet incredibly rewarding once you finally master it. Dark Souls does have a story, it is just difficult to unravel. Which is why a lot of people have been clamoring for a dark souls movie for years.

They want to see the narrative presented in a more cohesive manner while also getting to see their favorite characters and bosses duke it out on the big screen. As a longtime lover of the Souls series, I too would pay anything to see this movie be made.

Minecraft

This one is an odd one. You might not expect that Minecraft could be made into a movie considering it has little to no narrative to speak of. But whenever you go on any of the newest minecraft servers you will see most of the players discussing their ideas for a Minecraft movie story.

The good news is that there is actually a Minecraft movie in the works at the moment. It was meant to be released years ago but due to Covid and other unforeseen circumstances it has been delayed multiple times.

Payday 2

Payday 2 was released way back in 2013. And it still, to this day, receives major updates. But a lot of people have been saying it might be time for the game to step beyond the confines of just being a video game. Payday 2 has such a rich narrative that a movie would undoubtedly be incredible. The game has already made some live-action cutscenes and even features movie characters such as John Wick.

Gears Of War

The gritty shooter from the era of the Xbox 360. Gears Of War was a smash hit upon release and spawned a number of successful sequels. One of the main reasons the game was such a smash hit was it didn’t just feature gorey combat. It put a lot of emphasis on its emotional, character driven narrative. Players had to experience all the highs and lows alongside the characters. Which is why this is one series that would be perfect for adaptation to the big screen.

League of Legends

One of the most popular games on the planet, the MOBA has already spawned a successful TV show in the form of Arcane. But a lot of people in the community want to see Riot take it a step further and create a movie. The world of LoL has many colorful characters and interesting bits of lore to draw from. A lot of people think that it isn’t a case of if they will make a LoL movie, but when they will.
