This was an experiment to see how I could make poetry and direct address cinematic.
We used a Cinefade motor on the lens to pull focus in the shot, once the poetry starts. We also deliberately lip synced all the poems – to capture that deep rich sound of the voices.
What we came to realise was that the poems were like the songs in a musical – an opportunity for a character to express their inner world through song.
Office Song was completed at the end of 2019. It was screened at over 40 festivals, including some Oscar qualifying festivals like “LA Shorts” winning “Best Short” or “Best Experimental Short” at festivals including Beverly Hills Film Festival and Oxford International Short Film Festival.
