World’s First Manned Bipedal Robot

World’s First Manned Bipedal Robot

Fans of Fantasy… Here’s something great for you. ‘The World of Fantasy is becoming real.’ Fascination has always been obsessed with the idea of Robots and artificial intelligence. Especially the manned robots are classic in many sci-fi movies. The concept of sitting inside a massive World’s First Manned Bipedal Robot and controlling it with a joystick just like a suit sounds simply awesome.

The World’s First Manned Bipedal Robot was unveiled in last December by a South Korean company Hankook Mirae but it came us in highlights when the CEO of Amazon Jeff Bezos tried it and showed it off. On March 20th, Amazon was holding the top-secret Mars conference, an annual event to celebrate machine learning, space exploration, home automation and robotics. Jeff Bezos seemed to be thrilled about the manned robot and he jokingly asked, “Why do I feel so much like Sigour Weaver?” This was a reference to a Sci-Fi classic “Aliens” from 1986 by James Cameron.

The first manned robot suit called as Method 2

Some specifications the Giant Robot Method 2

The metal giant still has a long way to go as there are yet to be any evidences that it can walk or even resist force without falling but surely this real fantasy still has a lot to be explored. Here are some of the facts about the manned robot that will definitely sound amazing to you:

  • Pricing
The Method 2 took an investment of $200 million in its creation. The incomplete robot even costs $8.3 million in its current state and the cost is expected to increase. If compared to a US M1 Abrams tank which costs $8.92 million and that has been known for being too expensive, this bipedal robot will not be replacing them on the front lines. Apart from this, Hankook Mirae is planning to sell the manned robot initially with a price tag of $8 million.
  • Design
A human can sit inside it and can control the robot’s limbs with a joystick, similar to robots we saw in Hollywood movies like Transformers, Terminator and Robocop.
  • Size and Weight
It weighs 1.5 tons. With its arms stretched out, the robot measures 23 feet of width. It is a robot suit that is 13-foot-tall that makes approximately 4-meter in height. It looks like a metal giant.

  • Motive
The robot has been created to solve the problem of the real world. It is intended to be used in areas that are too hazardous for humans to approach. The plan has been to build a reliable robotic platform that can be used effectively in various utilitarian applications.
  • The future of Technology
It is prototype for different technologies that will allow the sci-fi experts to build robots with even more features and even bigger in size in near future. It is expected that other will militarize the concept if the model proves to be successful and versatile.

Are you excited for Sci-Fi creations like this one to become real?

Though robots like this have of course been eyed for military applications, they can be used for so much more. The ability for the robot to both protect a human and allow its operator to manipulate objects with its hands means we could see these devices being used in everything from hazardous construction to bio-hazard cleanup in the future. Still though, that’s a future that appears to be a long way off. It might be a long way of development where lot of improvement is still required for such manned robots but there’s a high probability for the same.
